Scumhunter vs Predator

Conference Finals. I did not think we'd make it. We had a few close calls along the way, but here we are. As a reminder, here is how we fared against the Predators in the regular season.

We beat them by 2 clear goals each time we met on the road but our lone home matchup went to a shootout. I'm. Hm. I'm not sure quite how to take that.

ANYWAY, IT'S TIME

Game 1

Halfway through the first and we're up against it already.

Birdstrike's inability to deal with shots from strange angles bites us once again as #44 receives the puck from a long pass and buries it. A few more chances here and there litter the first but it goes into the second with us down 1-0.

Towards the end of the second we start a powerplay with Leatherman on the puck.

Leatherman plays it to the left to #44 PMom who plays it cross ice to #56 Murmur Twin

Murmur Twin feeds it to #70 Kashuno who decides, "Eff it, I'm going to take on the whole team"

Which means PMom is wide open on the left.

1-1 and we're back in it!

Early in the third, Murmur Twin stole the puck off their #59 and passed it in to #41 Stickup

Stickup played it to the left to #72 Diqnol who plays this beautiful cross ice pass to Murmur Twin

Murmur Twin takes a shot

And puts us in the lead, 2-1, with 14 minutes to play. Almost immediately,

We get punished at the other end. #72 takes a shot which Birdstrike saved, but spills in front of him, and their #72 was the first one on the scene to punch it in. 2-2, and we head to overtime.

Overtime 1 passes without much incident. Overtime 2 now. And the game just kind of... decided a winner.

Luckily, it decided we won. Woo! Thanks, CPig. Interestingly enough, the game gave the gold silver and bronze to busb, poque, and cpig, who connected for that final goal. Funny how that works. Asiina, Magnus Gallant, and Allen Wren did not have good games, but we survived, and that's what's important.

Fisk and PMush have both resumed light training. I could probably play them but as long as we are ahead in the series I'm going to be saving them.

Game 2, Scumhunters lead series 1-0

Birdstrike says he needs a rest so Ecco is in goal today.

About halfway through the first, Bottleknight plays a pass through to Allen Wren that breaks the Predators back line

And Wren hits it so hard that all their goalie can do is get a hand to it and lose it across the line. 1-0.

Near the end of the second, the Predators attack and Ecco makes a good save but spills it in the path of another player. 1-1 into the third. And once again, nothing really happens in... ok, so, a look behind the curtain here, a lot of times the game will just play out the last two minutes in front of me and I have literally never seen anything happen. I thought that was going to be the case yet again so I went to let the dog out and be ready for overtime. Instead, I was greeted with

Our first lost to the Predators this year. Bummer. Wren was the best player on the ice today but their goalie was fantastic and we just couldn't find the second goal we needed.

Game 3, series tied 1-1

Out to Nashville. This year we have won every game we played in Nashville by 2 goals so fingers crossed we can repeat that. Birdstrike returns to the net today.

Late in the first, #53 Hats thinks to himself "Eh, I'm at the blue line, might as well have a shot."

The shot gets saved, but #69 Allen Wren is on hand to tap in. 1-0 into the second.

A quickfire Predators double starts the second, though, and boy are we in trouble. The second of course comes on a powerplay cause by Murmur Twin cross checking. Cool, cool. into the third.

Late in the third and we're playing 4 on 4. Keane receives the puck off of a faceoff on the Sega logo in front of their goal. He passes it all the way out to the left where PMom was. PMom struggled to control the puck and almost gave it away. He is ultimately able to gather it and send it to the center for Kashuno

And it's 2-2 with 5 minutes left in the third.

With a little over two and a half to play, the Predators get control of the puck behind our net. A few passes around to the front and Hats is almost able to win it back. However

We're down 3-2.

Podima has resumed light practice. He'll be back in full practice in about 10 days, so the game tells me.

Game 4, Predators lead series 2-1

Looks like this is gonna be another bumpy series.

Late in the first and we're on the powerplay. Starts with a faceoff on the Sega logo in front of their goal. The puck drops to Hats, who hits it over the glass. Faceoff 2, again finds its way to Hats. This time, Hats hits it right at the goalie, who saves and holds on. Faceoff 3, finds its way to Hats, who then passes to Leatherman. Leatherman takes the shot and it spills into Kashuno's path.

He puts it away. 1-0.

A comedy of errors leads to the tying goal. Pressure is on and I'm not sure who it is but he tries to pass it back to Birdstrike. Instead, it hits off the frame and bounces around behind the goal where a Predator scoops it up and tucks it home. 1-1 going into the second.

Early in the second and the Predators take a 2-1 lead. Their player, Bird, just runs up the ice and puts it past Birdstrike. Cool. Going to the third now.

It looks like the Predators are about to put us out of our misery but Asiina steps in to take the puck away. A quick pass to Diqnol followed by a pass in to Murmur Twin

Puts us back in it. 2-2 with six minutes to play. Good news: We made it to overtime. Bad news: PMom got rang up for tripping right before the end of the third, so we have to play the first 1:51 shorthanded, soooooo I'm not super confident.

We survive that, and actually get a powerplay of our own, but Kashuno and Leatherman decide to just dick around with the puck right in front of our goal and

Their #33 just takes the puck away and scores a shorthanded goal to crush my dreams.

We're down 3-1. I don't know how many screenshots I'm going to take the rest of the way. I am just beyond bummed right now.

Fisk is ready to go so he'll return to the lineup for Game 5.

Game 5, Predators lead series 3-1

AND WELCOME BACK MR FISK. He scores five minutes into the game to give us a 1-0 lead. I'm trying not to get too excited because we're still down in the series 3 game to 1 but gosh dang, what a great start.

So, of course, right before the end of the first the Predators tie it up. Well, at least we aren't losing.

I wasn't expecting a shot so I don't have the exact location, so I drew an arrow to where Murmur Twin actually was.

Murmur, you crazy. And we're back in the lead, 2-1.  #5 Poque apparently thought Murmur's goal was a dare or something because then he does this

I just... ok? Good job. 3-1. I'm starting to get very excited but I'm trying to remember that we still have to win two more games after this and plus this game is only halfway over.

On cue, with less than a minute to go in the second, the Predators pull one back. 3-2 going into the third.

#33 Retro Futurist served up #72 Diqnol a goal on a silver platter.

Unbelievably, though, Diqnol can't score here, as their goalie saves it. Luckily, Retro Futurist skated in to clean up the mess. 4-2 with 16 minutes to play.

Poque added a powerplay goal a few minutes later and we're cruising 5-2. Which... where the hell has this been the whole series? Is Fisk really that critical to this team?

Bottleknight scores on a powerplay a few minutes after that to polish off the game. I guess the answer is "Yes"?

Fisk is given a 6 out of 10 for his performance so I guess the answer is actually no. Poque got a 10, and Leatherman and Murmur Twin got 9s. Please, please play like this again game 6.

Poison Mushroom returns for Game 6.

Game 6, Predators lead series 3-2

One last road game to Nashville. If we can survive this we go home to play for all the marbles. Hopefully PMush can add something. Still super nervous. If I'm honest? I kind of don't want to play anymore. I really, really don't want to lose this. Ok, here we go.

We were up 2-0 in the first time I played this but then my game crashed RIP. Second take, lets hope it goes well.

The game opens with a two quick goals, one a piece. Diqnol scored ours. 1-1 into the second.

A few minutes into the second, Stickup pops up to give us the lead. I don't know where the screenshot went but I'm glad to see you score again, bud. 2-1 going into the third.

My dog wouldn't stop bugging me about going outside so I get back to be greeted by "OVERTIME", so that's exciting. We gave up a goal a few minutes into the third. That's awesome. So awesome you guys. 2-2. I miss the version of the game when we were up 2-0.

Overtime 1 is filled with a bunch of scares. The Predators are all over us but between them hitting the puck out of the rink and Birdstrike playing extremely well, we survive. And then.

#6 SNOOZE CRUISE GOAL OUT OF NOWHERE. WHAT A TIME TO SCORE YOUR FIRST GOAL FOR THE TEAM.

Snooze was the last non-goalie player on the team who was actually around this year to score a goal. Quidnose, who debuted in the playoffs, has also scored, but Magnus Gallant still has not. Magnus only played in 2 regular season games before I sent him to the minor leagues, though. I'd love for him to score so I can say "Every non-goalie on my team has scored", but if he doesn't I feel fine asterisking him away from that stat.

Game 7, series tied 3-3

Podima is still listed as day-to-day, and I think I could play them in this and get away with it but if we win I want Pod to be available during the Stanley Cup so I keep him on the bench.

The first period passes quietly into the night. 0-0.

With a little over six minutes left in the second, with us on the power play, PMom finds Snooze Cruise finds Murmur Twin

And Murmur Twin makes no mistake. Fisk would have been on hand to finish if the goalie spilled as well. 1-0 lead with :01 left on the power play. We milked that one for all it was worth. Nothing much else happens in the second, so we go into the third, 20 minutes away from the Stanley Cup Finals.

Early in the third, there is a faceoff on the EHM logo in front of their goal.

It falls to Hats, who squares it to #55 Leatherman in the center of the ice.

Leatherman skates to his right and finds Fisk.

Fisk seeks out #53 Hats, who takes a shot from distance

THE GOALIE SAVES IT BUT FISK IS RIGHT THERE AND

FIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISK SCOOOOOOOOOOOOORES! 2-0 WITH 18 MINUTES TO PLAY.

OH please oh please oh please oh please

Down to the final two minutes. The Predators are attacking. LEATHERMAN STEPS IN THE WAY OF A SURE GOAL. He clears. They reset. One minute left. Goalie pulled. Preds attacking. 30 seconds. Stickup gets done up for Roughing so we're shorthanded. Twenty seconds. Ten Second. ITS OVER. WE DID IT.

#1 Mumbles Scumhunters win the series over #5 Nashville Predators 4-3

As we are waiting to see who we will play in the Finals, we got this bit of news

Bummer. I hope a few days means he's ready for Game 1.

Here is who we are up against

A team I have yet to beat. Oh jeez.

Wrap up

SEE EVERYONE NEXT WEEK FOR THE SERIES FINALE

Rounding the corner

I apologize for missing Friday. I was in Delaware and didn't get home until super late, followed by a day trip to Dallas for the weekend so time was not in high supply. I will do a make-up entry tomorrow. Additionally, I'm trying something new this entry: Video! Unfortunately, it took a couple of tries to get things just right so the first game or two of this update will have sparse information. Let's just get started. First up, the Sabers at home. Here is PMush scoring! Unfortunately, that was the only good thing to happen to us this game. Next up, Ducks on the road!  A well taken RF goal.  And there here is This Is A Stickup scoring, but only in picture form. Those were the only highlights I managed.  Ok, on to this game against the Canadiens, where I have an actual lot of highlights to get through.  The puck gets wrapped around the back of the net. Stickup went out to collect but Hats beats him there. Hats...

Epilogue Year 6

July 2022 Ecco Raven, Magnus Gallant, Murmur Twin (Kings), CC Keane (Ducks), Diq Nol (retiring), Bird Strike, Kash Uno (Blue Jackets), and Retro Futurist (Kings) are all out of contract and have left their respective teams. Ecco signed for Scumhunters for 4 years, $3.3 million per year Murmur Twin signed for Scumhunters for 1 year, $4.8 million Retro Futurist signed for Scumhunters for 4 years, $3.7 million per year Bird Strike signed for Scumhunters for 2 years, $1.8 million per year Magnus Gallant signed for Scumhunters for 3 years, $1.35 million per year CC Keane signed for Scumhunters for 2 years, $3.6 million per year Kashuno signed for Scumhunters for 3 years, $1.6 million per year LOL that Bird is getting less money than Ecco. Bird has always started and Ecco has been #2. I wonder if that is changing? In the hurry to sign up all these players, we are over the salary cap I think, so someone if not a few folks will probably be released again. Circle of life. This is ...

Epilogue Year 5

July 2021 Magnus Gallant and Bottle Knight have left the Scumhunters. The AI let a lot of players go so we are down to a squad of 12 Scumhunters, 4 randos, and 2 guys the computer made up because we didn't have a lot of players. Cant look at their "Information" or give them an actual contract. Nice job, AI. Should mean a lot of players in. Sure enough, Magnus Gallant re-signed. This is a guy whose latest contract extension was for $920,000 and has exclusively played in the AHL at Tuscon the last three years. He was just handed a $3.6 million dollar one year deal. AI dumb. Bottle Knight also returned for 2 years, $3.2 million per year. I mentioned possible retirements coming up. Here's one. And actually, a day later, he went ahead and retired, not bothering to play the last season on his contract. So here are FL's final screens. 23 Scumhunters remain. August 2021 Austria will host the 2026 Olympic games. September 2021 The L...
