On July 31st, I got this email.

Sad, but kind of saw it coming.

He's been the captain of the Scumhunters for the whole game until now. A Stanley Cup champion, 3 times fan player of the year, he won Best Defensemen at the 2018 Olympics and came third for that award at the 2022 Olympics, made the All Star team at the 2018 Olympics, a four time NHL All Star, a bronze and silver medalist, a World Cup champion, and a Norris Trophy winner. He played in 563 regular season games, scoring 45 goals and assisting on 209. 254 points. A fantastic career. God speed, Hats. 20 Scumhunters left.

Busb signed for the Dallas Stars on a 2 year, $5.1 million per year deal.

Asiina is back on a one year, $2.9 million contract.

In the season preview, Scumhunters are second. Wow. What a turn around! ...huh. A day later the game generated another and now we're 26th. Weird.

Birdstrike is currently without a team, so I am kind of expecting him to retire any day now. He rejected an offer to re-sign with the Scumhunters.

Pre draft rankings

List includes less and less Scumhunters each year.

PMom signed a 2 year, $9 million per year extension.

A nobody won Fans Player of the Year for the first time. Well, he was our #1 overall draft pick, so he's not exactly nobody, but he's not a Scumhunter.

Okay, that's it. Here is Birdstrike's memorial.

He hasn't officially retired yet but will soon I'm sure. 6 down, 19 to go.

Rounding the corner

I apologize for missing Friday. I was in Delaware and didn't get home until super late, followed by a day trip to Dallas for the weekend so time was not in high supply. I will do a make-up entry tomorrow. Additionally, I'm trying something new this entry: Video! Unfortunately, it took a couple of tries to get things just right so the first game or two of this update will have sparse information. Let's just get started. First up, the Sabers at home. Here is PMush scoring! Unfortunately, that was the only good thing to happen to us this game. Next up, Ducks on the road!  A well taken RF goal.  And there here is This Is A Stickup scoring, but only in picture form. Those were the only highlights I managed.  Ok, on to this game against the Canadiens, where I have an actual lot of highlights to get through.  The puck gets wrapped around the back of the net. Stickup went out to collect but Hats beats him there. Hats...

Wrapping up a road trip

We have the second half of that road trip to tackle so lets get to it. We're away to the Captials. They're 5th in the East to our 5th in the West. The first period didn't have a lot happen in it at all. In the second the deadlock was broken by a good effort by Fisk. The Fisk goal was about the only action of the second period. Pretty dull proceedings. Things were going pretty well until Poque just decided to stop skating after the puck at one point. That turnover led to a goal and sent the game to overtime. Also the puck deflected off of Birdstrike. Way to go, keep. Well, you can probably guess how that turned out. The winning goal came at the very end of overtime. There was a faceoff happening with 20 seconds left so I pulled this up to type that previous paragraph because I just knew  how things were going to go. Of course Poque decided to make amends for being a bonehead earlier. Since I forgot that, and because I decided to not bother copying the bottom half ...

Injury bug strikes again

We start today's update with some less than ideal news. I think the 23 player squad limit is the biggest thing I am having trouble adjusting to, especially when we roster 20 in a game. I've got a couple of injuries so I have free spots on my bench now which I assume is not good? Anyway, onto the first game of this update. A home loss is less than ideal. Confirmation that we suck against teams from the East as well as on the road. Gosh. So of course our next game is on the road to a team from the East, Columbus! They are 13-11-4. Let's see how it goes. Its_is_a_mystery.png Ok then Come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. I need new penalty takers apparently. Kash also blew a glorious chance to win it with 10 seconds left in OT. And then. Well, at least this update is almost over. Can't get much worse I hope. On the road to the 14th placed team in the East. Predictable ending. Sigh. Okay, one more game for this quick update. ...
